Meet Charlene

As your State Representative I will work to the best of my knowledge to change the culture in the Arizona State Legislature from assaults on women health, denigration of immigrants and attacks on the poor to developing constructive solutions to our state’s unemployment, our budgetary crisis and to connect our economic development to the state of our educational system. I will propose real solutions and not insult your intelligence by employing slogans and catch phrases designed for license plate decals. I pledge to represent the people of Legislative District 4 and not the interest of banking, insurance and pharmaceutical industries. I will promote accountability, transparency and inter-agency coordination in State Government.

In the event that budget cuts are necessary I will target agencies and personnel which primarily promote the personal agenda of our politicians and bureaucrats and not the agencies and contractors who provide direct services to our citizens. In the event our taxes need to be increased I will ensure that working people’s taxes are increased last and speculators and companies who export jobs are increased first. I will not tolerate an out of control and politically entrenched private prison industry whose primary goal is to make a substantial profit by incarcerating our citizens.

It will take a very committed and competent legislature to address the agenda that I am proposing but I believe that I have the ability to work on this agenda. I have been employed in the public sector for a number of years, primarily involving constituency services. I strongly believe that aside from performing legislative functions State Representatives must be a community organizer and leader and must understand the workings of government. While working as a Congressional Assistant for two United States Congressmen I have had the opportunity to witness the inner-workings of many federal agencies and community organizations. I have gained a valuable knowledge as to the relationship between government and the public sector programs that serve our communities. That is why I believe that political leadership is essential to the proper development of our communities particularly in the educational and economic development realm. Throughout my public sector career I have collaborated with constituents to achieve positive outcomes in dealing with federal agencies and have worked to increase the quality of and access to constituent services to residents of Yuma County.

My primary background is in Congressional constituency services but I was also employed within State Government and served Governor Napolitano as member of her Executive Team in the role of Community Liaison to Yuma and La Paz Counties, within the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Agency

I have served on the Yuma Union High School District Governing Board for eight years and have advocated for programs contributing to the health and preparedness of students to ensure lifetime success. I will continue to address those educational issues when elected to the Arizona State Legislature. I want you to know me as your Education Legislator.
